As this class comes to a close, I have a greater
understanding on the field of early childhood education in the United States
and around the world. By having the opportunities to look at the global reach
of early childhood education, one consequence I can better understand the needs
and challenges different countries face. Many of the countries face the same
challenges and concerns of the United States. Another consequence is understanding
that each country is unique, but they understand the need of educating young
children and the benefits of starting education early. A final consequence is
understanding how poverty and different races play in early childhood education.
A goal that I would like to see for early childhood
education is the field aligns with professionals in education. I feel that many
times families and the community do not recognize the need and the benefits of
early childhood education. We are often labeled as daycare centers so it can be
hard to find professionals to provide quality education. The same
professionalism needs to reaching across the borders to benefit all early
childhood educators and students globally.
Yes, Tanya, this course has provided us all with useful information about the U.S. and other countries. Embracing everyone's uniqueness and being able to work with diverse families is a great reward in itself. I agree that society must learn to see our profession as something more than just a daycare. Enjoyed reading your blog. Hope to read more next course!
ReplyDeleteTanya,
ReplyDeleteSociety is always questioning what the difference between preschool and daycare. I found this when you goggle preschool versus daycare. This is a pressing question in society. I feel with the changing trends in ECE, eventually more of society will knwo and understand this question. http://www.pregnancy-info.net/preschool_and_daycare.html
Hi Tanya, I agree that this course has given us the opportunity to learn more about the field of education on a global level. I agree that even though there are many issues that impact the field of education, one commonality is the need for early learning opportunities for ALL children.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your knowledge throughout the past seven weeks! I enjoyed reading your posts and have learned a lot from you.
Take care and take time to enjoy the sunshine!

Tanya,
DeleteYoung children, as noted earlier in this class, have their own curriculum priorities. They also have their own motivations for assigning these priorities. Individuals who have worked with young children remark upon how eager children are to explore and learn about their world. The origins of this motivation, however, are a matter of dispute. Some argue that children are motivated to learn and that it is rigid, constraining schooling that dulls the young child’s avid striving to learn about his or her world. When a child’s abilities are maturing, he or she spontaneously seeks out stimuli to nourish those abilities. Young children will often ask adults to give them numbers to add or subtract as they begin to master these mathematical concepts. Tanya, I really enjoyed reading your blog, and good luck in your future classes.
Tanya,
ReplyDeleteI have realy enjoyed reading your blogs over the last eight weeks. I also agree with you regardin how the community and even our families view us as a child care center. Most parents do not have the knowledge of what developmental milestones are, developmental appropriate practice or what currucuillum that is being implemented in their child's classroom. Parents want to know the cost of tuition, the time they open and close and what day the center closes. I always tell my teachers that they are the experts in their classroom and this field. I let them know that they are the ones that need to inform their parents on what their child is learning and where the child is at through two assessments and a portfolio with samples of the child's work. I believe if we raise the base pay of preschool teachers and let them know that there are certain trainings that must be completed in their first year of employment. I was very impressed with all the international websites and organization. My favorite website is UNICEF. I hope to be part of this organization one day. Where do you see your self in five years?
