The Division of Early
Childhood (DEC) - Code of Ethics
Responsive Family
Centered Practices
4. We shall empower
families with information and resources so that they are informed consumers of
services for their children (Division of Early Childhood (DEC), 2009, p. 3).
- This statement from
the DEC Code of Ethics is significant in my professional life because as an
educator I have the responsibility to educate not only young children but
families as well. Parents need to be aware of changes in the early childhood
and how the changes can impact their family. My responsibility to the families
is to keep up-to-date on changes in the field and educate families on the
changes.
NAEYC Code of Ethics
I.2.3 – To welcome
all family members and encourage them to participate in the program (NAEYC,
2005, p. 5).
- This statement from
the NAEYC code of ethics is important because families are the heart of the
early childhood program. As an administrator I need to be able to welcome all
families and provide an inviting atmosphere. In addition part of educating a
small child is encouraging family participation. Educators and family need to work
together to provide quality education and services for young children.
I.2.4 – To listen to
families, acknowledge and build upon their strengths and competencies, and
learn from families as we support them in their task of nurturing children
(NAEYC, 2005, p. 6).
- This statement from
the NAEYC code of ethics is significant because building relationship is
important. By providing an atmosphere where educators and parents communicate
with each other you are building relationships. Communication helps an educator
understands the needs or desire of the families as well. By having these
conversations all parties can work together to create a supportive and
nurturing environment.

Hello Tanya,
ReplyDeleteNAEYC code of ethic I.2.4 is a very important ethic. We have to build relationships with our families because if we do not, we are not supporting them. When we care for children we are also caring for their families. We play an important role in the lives of many families. Educators and families share a common goal and that is to educate and care for children in ways that support their development. It is our job to support families as they provide their children with the protection and nurture they need.
I really liked doing this week's blogging exercise. All of us work in Early Childhood in different capacities...some teachers, some administrators, and our choices of "code of ethics" reflects this position in the field. I like that these posts are reflective of the person who posts and I can relate and understand their perspective.
ReplyDeleteAwesome job! I love all the ethics but your last one is that sticks out to me most. I believe that you must listen to parents and build a relationship with them. Parents are trusting us with their children every day so it's vital to have communication and a understanding with them.
