The website I choose was NAEYC
(National Association for the Education of Young Children), http://www.naeyc.org. NAEYC has always been a
go to website for me and has always been a very good resource. One area that
was interesting as it pertains to young children and politics is the Strong
Start for Children initiative (http://www.naeyc.org/policy/federal/strong-start-for-children).
This federal initiative supports the need for high quality early childhood
education and federal funding for this initiative. The initiative recognizes
that high early childhood education is needed in low-income families and
recognizes that early education experiences set the course of child’s life. As
an educator, I firmly support that need to start educating children early and
providing educational assistance to low-income families. However, this can be a
very controversial topic due to federal budget constraints. Many times, people
are not educated on the need to provide high quality early childhood education
and do not understand the need to provide federal funding. I believe that it is
very important to educate these people on the benefits and how the investment
in education can provide great rewards in a child’s life. Not only does the
website focus on program initiatives in early childhood education, the website
provides information on public policies, professional development, and issues
and trends that affect early childhood education. It is a great resource for
early childhood educator and is very user friendly.
NAEYC website will always be a great gem for all early childhood educators. It is good for other professionals to visit to understand the standards associated with being an educator, as well. It shows why early childhood educators are so important for our young children. I enjoyed your blog entry.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree Tanya, the National Association for the Education of Young Children do an excellent job of politically advocating and addressing so many issues affecting young children and their families around the world. Statistically families in low-income households are mainly affected by poverty, low wage employments, and lack of education. Thus, it is the profound role of organization such as NAEYC and other passionate early childhood professionals or public health officals to go beyond minor standards and deeply support the wellbeing of each individual family universally.
ReplyDeleteHi Tanya, isn't it great to have a go to website where you can go to get information that will help you on a professional level!!
ReplyDeleteI think it is always a step in the right direction when there are federal initiatives that
support the need for high quality care. This is definitely where funding needs to be as this will benefit all children and their families. I think that it is important to have a website that explains the array of policies as many people may not feel they have enough knowledge when it comes to Government policies and programs, so it is important to have websites where they can be explained. I also like the amount of resources and professional development that they offer.
No wonder this is your go to website!!! :)
Thank you for sharing!
Take care,
Stephanie
