Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

This week's blog focuses on international organizations that offer career opportunities and play a role in early childhood education.

Save the Children appeals to me because their work with children extends beyond the United States and into developing countries. Save the Children offers support for programs that provide learning opportunities in schools and the community. The organization influences global and national policies in quality education. According to the website  “Save the Children  works to ensure every child receives a good quality education and gains the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the 21st century.”
Job Opportunity: Director, Federal Early Childhood Policy,
This position with the Save the Children organization requires that the candidate manage early childhood education federal issues and work legislating advancement in the field. The candidate is responsible for developing legislation and funding strategies with senior directors at Save the Children. The professional requirements are extensive for this position. The candidate must have a Master’s degree, have four years of experience working on Capitol Hill, experience with working in a campaign, and an established network and contacts with senior Washington government and nongovernment ECE policy circles.

Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) (http://acei.org)

ACEI tagline, Bright futures for every child, highlights the organization commitment to support and advocate the access to education, equity in educational settings, quality educational content, and the children’s right to education. ACEI is a global organization that network throughout different countries to share and learn about their educational practices. ACEI provides support through country liaisons too. ACEI is affiliated with many global organization such as the UN, World Forum Alliance, Child Rights Connect, Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities, and Consultative Group for Early Care and Development. I was unable to find job opportunities for the ACEI. However, they did post internship opportunities.
Internship Opportunities:
The intern must be enrolled in a graduate program that focuses on global education with a particular interest on children’s education and could include basic education or early childhood development.

UNICEF appeals to me because they are committed to fighting for the rights for children globally. UNICEF supports a child’s right to safe shelter, nutrition, protection from disaster and conflict. In addition, UNICEF supports unborn children by providing access to prenatal care, clean water and sanitation, health care and education. UNICEF focuses on early childhood development for children throughout the global. UNICEF believes young children have the right to have access good nutrition and health as well as a chance at quality education in their early years. UNICEF has the potential to reach young children in developing countries and help them into adults that can give back to their communities.
Job Opportunity – Education Officer

Unfortunately, the first requirement for the job is that the candidate is a Kenyan national since the job is located in Nairobi, Kenya. The qualifications for this position include the candidate needs a Bachelor’s degree and experience working with international organization. This position requires that the candidate work in a group to improve health, education, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene, and protect the children from violence, exploitation, and abuse in Nairobi and Somalia.

  1. Dear Tanya,
This week's blog focuses on international organizations; I see we have something in common I had chosen Save the Children this organization offers support for programs that provide learning opportunities in schools and the community. I think this will be very beneficial to organizations and support is always needed in an organization. I would like to know do you see yourself in the near future contacting one of these organizations to be of a assisting to your program in the future. The one thing that I love about this organization because it works to ensure every child receives a good quality education and achieve the necessary skills and understanding and knowledge they need to grow and developed in this society that we live in. I look forward to reading your post next week.

  3. Hi Tanya,
I have always wanted to work with an organization that supports children and families world wide. Budgeting and funding has always been one of les stronger strengths. I am hoping to take a few courses in business administration to strengthen my skills. Save the Children, seems like an organization, that would be beneficial to future dream profession. Great post!
    Sincerely,
    Cynthia.

  4. Hi Tanya,

I like how all three of your international organization that you chose work for the good of all children in different ways but it all comes back to strengthening families, and most of all the children.

  5. Tanya,
Imagine a world in which every girl and boy has an opportunity to receive a quality education. All children would be nurtured from birth and given the skills necessary to take their place in the global community. Imagine a world where being born female doesn’t condemn a child to a life of danger and missed opportunities. At UNICEF they work to make that world a reality. They are committed to ensuring that all children regardless of gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic background or circumstances realize their right to a quality education. Great post!!!
